Idar Designs Featured in Vancouver Art Gallery Exhibition

We are honoured to be featured in the Vancouver Art Gallery’s newest exhibition, Modern in the Making: Post-War Craft and Design in British Columbia, which showcases the work of over 100 designers and craftspeople who helped define the West Coast modern aesthetic.

This landmark exhibition includes select pieces of Idar jewellery as part of a group of goldsmiths who have significantly contributed to the development of modern design in British Columbia. Idar’s inclusion is a proud moment, as it celebrates over 50 years of commitment to traditional goldsmithing and innovation in design.

Curated by Daina Augaitis, the exhibition focuses on works created between 1945 and 1975, across disciplines such as ceramics, furniture, textiles, fashion, and jewellery. It offers insight into how post-war ideologies, material innovation, and regional influence shaped a unique aesthetic that continues to influence contemporary design.

We are especially proud that Idar’s distinct handcrafted pieces, inspired by nature and rooted in Scandinavian and Celtic traditions, have been recognized among this esteemed group of artists. The use of sustainable materials and enduring techniques, combined with a deep respect for artistry, aligns closely with the principles of the West Coast modern movement.
